Lately I have been thinking a lot about my motivation. What motivates me? What gets me going? What keeps me engaged in the quest for justice?
Metallica motivates me.
For my entire teenage life Metallica was often the only thing that kept me going. I was a struggling kid in a pretty violent household who wanted to rebel in all the worst ways so I played it as loud as possible as often as possible to piss of my parents and basically any adult anywhere near me. #questionauthority #sanitarium
All throughout my 20s Metallica was my default. When I was angry, when I was happy, when I wanted to flip off the world, when I was sad. There wasn’t a week that went by that I didn’t listen to Metallica at least once. #blackalbum #theunforgiven
In my 30s I thought I was too old for Metallica. I thought I had to act my age. And so for a little bit I stopped listening to them. It didn’t last long. I had a crisis and they are my default so I cranked them up again. Loud enough that when the top was off my Jeep you could hear me coming from 5 blocks away. #showmeyourhorns #thefrayedendsofsanity
In my 40s I am building the Bird Girl Army. Sometimes I think to myself how am I going to stay motivated? How do I build this business? How do I motivate others to take action? How do I lead so that others will be inspired to lead too? How do I know that I am making a difference. And then I crank up Anesthesia(Pulling Teeth) on the Kill Em All album and I know that I am on the right track.
If Metallica taught me anything they taught me to be fierce, rebellious, and TOTALLY unapologetic.
The inner rebel is alive in me today because of Metallica.
They have given me the strength and the motivation to keep going in my darkest moments, and the lord only knows this is one hell of a dark moment in our nations history.
